The Yarenis tradition, i.e., visitors/helpers [from the Turkish word yardımcı) from nearby villages who come to spend the Day of the Holy Cross, is revived on September 17 by ‘Neoi Orizontes’ Cultural Association of Apollona, Rhodes, in cooperation with DOPAR (Municipal Organisation of Rhodes for Culture and Sports).
The custom is observed by many locals who receive friends and acquaintances to their homes every year on the Day of the Holy Cross and offer them food.
The celebration is held at the yard of the elementary school of Apollona. The food served has been cooked by village women and there is live music.
