Koulouria Festival
The traditional Koulouria Festival is organised every August in the yard of the Secondary School of Archangelos.
Preparations for koulouria, the traditional wedding dish of Archangelos, start many days before the ceremony. Women relatives of the couple get together to prepare this homemade pasta while singing wishes for the couple to be wed.
They then spread the pasta on a cloth laid out on house terraces for it to dry. On the day of the wedding, the koulouria is boiled in meat/chicken stock in big cauldrons. This is the first dish of the wedding meal. There can be no wedding without koulouria.
The event is organised by ‘Aithon’ Cultural Association of Archangelos in cooperation with the Region of South Aegean and the Municipal Organisation of Culture and Sports of Rhodes.
