St. Soulas is a chapel at a location of the same name 5km from Soroni, Rhodes. The chapel stands in a beautiful valley with lush vegetation and quaint dry riverbeds. The feast is celebrating the memory of St. Syllas, a diciple and co-traveller of St. Paul’s, who -according to tradition- founded the church of Rhodes.
The religious feast is combined with a trade fair. About ten days before the actual feast day, Soroni residents put up huts made of tree branches outside the chapel yard that remain there till the end of the event. Other stands and kiosks are also set up by various sellers who sell children’s toys and gifts as well as street food, like souvlakia, etc. There is also an exhibition of farming machinery. In the past there used to be spectacular and entertaining horse and donkey races.
